Our Story

Josh and Chery West met in Seattle and connected over a love of music. The two fell in love with food and wine and traveled the world searching for the best wines they could find. Before long, they realized this was no hobby and what they needed to do with their lives.

The couple decided to move to the Walla Walla Valley, where Cheryl got a marketing and events job for Dunham Cellars. On the other hand, Josh went off to New Zealand to become a harvest intern. When he returned to Washington, Josh earned degrees in Enology and Viticulture. He worked for several wineries in Walla Walla while honing his craft.

Inspired by Elephant 6’s roots, passion, and purpose, Josh and Cheryl created Elephant Seven Winery, where the draw of a commercial winery never entered their minds. As head winemaker, Josh focuses on a simplistic approach to winemaking to allow the grapes to speak for themselves.

Josh and Cheryl West created Elephant Seven in the image of their favorite music collective, Elephant 6

This collective of artists created music that they could be proud of with no interest in commercial gain. The same is true for Elephant Seven. Using the best grapes from premium vineyards throughout the Walla Walla Valley, Josh utilizes a simplistic approach to winemaking so that the grapes can speak for themselves.
