Tom planted the first grapes in 1999, and now, the 50-acre vineyard produces some of the most sought-after Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in Washington State.
In 2003, Jessica Munnell left a career in Viticulture to pursue a life of winemaking. After traveling to Australia for an internship, Jessica returned and worked for several prestigious wineries and vineyards, including Chateau Ste Michelle, Canoe Ridge, Mercer Wine Estates, and Vintage Wine Estates.
In 2008, Jessica and Tom formed a partnership and created Wautoma Wines, utilizing the grapes from Tom’s vineyard and grapes from Wahluke Slope’s Stone Tree Vineyard. This small-lot boutique winery is led by two people who know everything there is to know about the Wahluke Slope and the wines that it produces. From the soil to the vines to the best way to harvest and process the grapes. They tell the story of the Wahluke Slope one bottle at a time.
